The Return of School Zones and Updated Traffic Offences

With the School Holidays coming to a close soon parents are being called on to set a good example for other motorists in and around school zones.

40km/h School Safety Zones are back in force from Friday January 27th. Along with 40km/h Speed Signs, flashing lights and speed limit markings on the road, School Zones can be identified by the triangular markings (dragon's teeth) at the entrance to every school zone.

Council, the Police and the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) have updated the list of fines in School Zones:

School Zone Parking Offences

  • No Stopping, $433 plus two demerit points
  • No Parking, $180 plus two demerit points
  • Bus Zone, $325 plus two demerit points
  • Double Parking, $325 plus two demerit points

School Zone Traffic Offences

  • Speeding, $3,470 plus seven demerit points
  • Using a hand-held mobile phone while driving, $433 plus four demerit points
  • Children's Crossing (disobeying hand-held sign, or approaching crossing too quickly to stop safely), $541 plus four demerit points
  • U-turns, $433 plus four demerit points
