Our Community Pantry is a food rescue project based in Bargo. They divert food that would otherwise be heading to landfill for a variety of reasons (overrun or cancelled orders, change or damaged packaging, not meeting store standards etc) and make it available, and affordable to their members.
COVID made them adapt their service so that they could continue our work within social distancing guidelines and ensure they could keep families and volunteers, especially those with compromised health or immunity issues, safe and still able to access food and household items. They closed their storefront and modified the service to a pre-order, click and collect outreach style. Now they deliver weekly Food Hampers, Meat Packs and Essential Items to Campbelltown (soon to change to Mount Annan), Oran Park, Moss Vale, Bargo and Goulburn.
Whilst demand for the service has grown exponentially, and they expect that it will keep growing into the new year, they are mindful to meet this demand but in a way that is safe to members, volunteers and the business itself. For Macarthur families this means that we have had to find another venue for Macarthur collections that is more suitable for their growing numbers.
The Mount Annan service will begin Wednesday November 4, 2020.
